Welcome to Pastoral Care

Dhelkaya Health is committed to a model of person-centred care. Pastoral Care is an integral component of that model.

Pastoral Care seeks to integrate the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of all those at Dhelkaya Health – patients and residents, their families and friends, and staff.

Pastoral Care is confidential and non-religious. It is conducted in a person-centred and non-directive manner by a trained hospital professional, who is also a member of Spiritual Care Australia, the peak professional body for spiritual care practitioners.

It is centred around listening in such a way that allows each person to explore and express their hopes and concerns, while drawing on their own personal resources, strengths and sources of meaning and connection.

Pastoral Care is available to all, regardless of faith, culture, gender or social background.

It is a part of the multidisciplinary team that provides care for patients, clients and residents, and their families, at Dhelkaya Health.

How Pastoral Care can help

Pastoral Care recognises that hospitalisation, or admission to permanent residential care, can evoke many challenges and concerns.

Pastoral Care can help if you:

  • are feeling alone, worried, powerless or vulnerable
  • have received a diagnosis or are facing death, loss and grief or
    bereavement
  • want the special ministries of the Christian Church or any other faith
  • want assistance with prayer, meditation, celebration, memorial or ritual of any kind.

If would like the opportunity to speak with someone, and have what you are experiencing heard in a safe and confidential environment, please contact the Pastoral Care Coordinator, either directly or via the nursing staff.

Religious leaders from your faith tradition are welcome to provide your spiritual care while you here. Pastoral care can contact them if you wish.
