Purple Pride Blooms in Mount Alexander Shire
Our local community has come together to show support for LGBTIQA+ youth this Wear It Purple Day, Friday 29 August.
Dhelkaya Health rallied the shire’s creative community to knit vibrant coverings for four local trees, transforming them into symbols of inclusion and celebration. The trees can be seen at Castlemaine Secondary College, Dhelkaya Health’s Castlemaine and Maldon campuses as well as at Tarrengower Women’s Prison near Maldon.
LGBTIQA+ Wellbeing Officer at Dhelkaya Health Sherene Clow, who led the initiative, said they were “overwhelmed by the wonderful creations that have flowed in. Being different is always hard as a young person, but we want to show this is a difference we celebrate in the Mount Alexander Shire.”
Community members are also encouraged to join the movement by wearing purple today. Every splash of colour counts in showing young people they are seen, supported, and celebrated.
