Early Learning Centres across Mount Alexander Shire have embraced National Nutrition Week (October 14–20) with engaging activities to inspire children to eat well.
National Nutrition Week is an annual campaign that highlights how individuals, families, and communities can connect and thrive through nutritious food choices.
Dhelkaya Health proudly supports most early learning centres in Castlemaine through the Smiles 4 Miles program, an oral health initiative focused on three key messages: Eat Well, Drink Well, and Clean Well.
At Busy Bees in Castlemaine, educators incorporated fun and educational activities throughout National Nutrition Week. Babies explored fruits through printing, while older children enjoyed a sensory experience with tasting and smelling various fruits, herbs, and vegetables.
South Castlemaine Kindergarten also joined the festivities, engaging children in discussions and artwork centered around everyday and occasional foods. The educators facilitated hands-on experiences, allowing kids to prepare and share a colorful fruit platter featuring watermelon, mandarins, apples, strawberries, and bananas.
This not only promoted healthy eating but also helped develop the children’s fine motor skills and foster a sense of independence in snack preparation.
