Dhelkaya Health’s Community Health Nurses, Tim Stirling and Jenny Miko, provided a Men’s Health Talk in Maldon on Wednesday 21 August. The Maldon Men’s Shed hosted the event and welcomed all community members.
Tim Stirling is a community health nurse with 35 years’ experience and presented some health education on continence, urinary tract infections, cancer (bowel, prostate and testicular), male sexuality and grief, loss and depression. The focus of the Men’s Health Talk was to educate and inform through an interactive format.
Tim said: “The audience was very engaged in the topics and talked a little about their own experiences. It was terrific that the audience were interested and hopefully learned something especially about the importance of having regular visits to their local doctor, screening and blood tests.”
Dhelkaya Health’s community nurses provide health information, promotion and education to encourage people to live well in the Mount Alexander Shire. At this event they also offered health checks to attendees.
Jenny said: “It was really great to see men and women at the presentation, asking questions and learning about how to look after their physical and mental health better. Many attendees took pamphlets and information away with them too for friends and family.”
Rob, President of the Maldon Men’s Shed, said: “Our members come from diverse and interesting backgrounds with various skills.”
The Maldon Men’s Shed members are involved in a range of activities from woodworking, restoration and metalwork. The focus of their work is a mix of community-based projects and private client projects. The Shed offers friendship and the opportunity for people to socialise together while teaching and learning from each other. The Maldon Men’s Shed operates on a non-profit basis and is entirely reliant on grants, membership fees, self-generated funds and donations. Access is via Phoenix Street Maldon.
The shed is open Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm and currently some Saturday mornings. New members are always welcome.
