Let’s talk about incontinence

Dhelkaya Health’s Continence team offers expert support, treatment and hope for all ages,

Did you know that 1 in 4 Australians are incontinent? If you experience bladder or bowel leakage, you may have incontinence. Incontinence describes the accidental or involuntary loss of urine (wee) from the bladder and/or faeces (poo) or flatus (wind) from the bowel. Incontinence can significantly impact a person’s quality of life but the good news is that it can be managed, treated and sometimes cured.

How we can help

The Continence team at Dhelkaya Health is dedicated to offering the community a caring service in which to discuss continence concerns. The team consists of clinical nurse consultants and physiotherapists with expert knowledge in the assessment and treatment of incontinence. We also have a qualified stomal therapist to focus on improving ongoing care for people living with a bladder or bowel stoma, including those with a newly formed stoma or recent surgery.

The Continence team offers comprehensive assessments which include well-informed discussions regarding bladder and/or bowel health and related symptoms. We offer a variety of strategies with realistic goals and outcomes in mind. These discussions can also include the introduction of quality continence-specific products to improve daily management.

Continence concerns, such as waking up multiple times overnight to go to the toilet, can be extremely bothersome, impacting sleep quality and increasing the risk of falls at home. Our team provides education during consultations to enhance bladder and bowel function awareness and improve quality of life.

Who we help

The Continence team helps people of all ages who live in the Mount Alexander, Macedon, and Central Goldfields shires. The team can assist with applications for Federal and/or State Government funding for continence-specific supplies for those who are eligible.

The team also supports children with continence concerns such as toilet training, bed wetting and constipation. We also support people living with a disability as a registered NDIS provider.

Face-to-face appointments are completed at either our Castlemaine or Maldon campuses, and detailed assessments can also be completed via phone or telehealth. We accept referrals via My Aged Care, from your General Practitioner or other health professional.
