National Reconciliation Week is coming up and with it, Dhelkaya Health’s annual Reconciliation Week Walking Tour. The tour will set off on 1 June at 10.30am from a location in Castlemaine.
Everyone on the walk will have an opportunity to learn the Aboriginal history of Castlemaine from Uncle Rick Nelson.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May to 3 June each year.
Reconciliation Week Walking Tours have been held in Castlemaine since 2014. The one-hour leisurely walk is an opportunity to learn about some sites of significance to local Aboriginal people. Â The walk ends at a Dja Dja Wurrung National Reconciliation Week display at the Market building.
Local Elder Uncle Rick Nelson, a Jaara descendant and Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owner, will lead this walking tour.
The walk is suited to all fitness levels and abilities and will be postponed if there is heavy rain.
