Run The Maine 2016

Castlemaine Health gets behind Run The Maine

Run the Maine is Castlemaine Health’s most high-profile fundraising event.

In the last seven years, Run the Maine has raised more than $50,000, which has directly benefited patients, staff and the community by enabling the hospital to purchase new equipment and upgrade patient areas.

All funds raised by Run The Maine are donated to Castlemaine hospital.

Each year, Run The Maine attracts walkers and runners who take part in a fun run along the main streets of Castlemaine. There are various categories for different abilities and age is no barrier to joining in, with 10km, 5km and 2km routes to choose from. There’s also a prize for the best fancy dress.

Just last week, The Cumberland Hotel and Castlemaine Mail got together with Run the Maine to make a special donation to Castlemaine Health.
Local resident and Castlemaine Health staff member Dr Richard Mayes is a regular Run The Maine participant best known as ‘The Bird’ due to his distinctive bird costume.

The Bird’s Run the Maine team recently took out first prize in the Castlemaine Mail’s 2016 footy tipping competition. First prize—an $800 voucher to spend at the Cumberland Hotel—will be used by the Run the Maine committee to support the event, but Castlemaine Mail has arranged to donate an additional $800 to the cause.

Richard said: “Thanks to the generosity of our local paper and Billy and Andrew at the Cumberland Hotel, we’re closer to getting the new equipment we need for aged and palliative care. It all makes a difference and we’re really grateful for their support.”

Castlemaine hospital has been serving Castlemaine and the surrounding community for over 160 years and Run the Maine’s support helps us maintain a long tradition of improving local people’s lives.
