As the colder months set in, it becomes more important than ever for older adults to stay active and maintain their mobility. In support of local wellbeing initiatives, a special community session focusing on winter mobility and arthritis-friendly exercises will be held at the Newstead Rural Transaction Centre.
Date: Thursday, 19 June 2025
Time: 11.30 am – 12.30 pm
Location: Newstead Rural Transaction Centre, 45 Lyons Street, Newstead
Local Community Health Nurse Jenny Mikos will lead the one-hour session, providing practical advice and demonstrating simple, low-impact exercises designed especially for older adults living with arthritis. These movements aim to improve joint flexibility, reduce stiffness, and help manage pain during the colder season when mobility can become more challenging.
“Movement is one of the best ways to keep pain at bay and maintain independence,” says Jenny. “Winter can make us want to stay indoors and become less active, but even small amounts of regular movement can make a big difference.”
The session is free to attend and open to all members of the community. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring along a water bottle. No previous exercise experience is necessary, and the session will be tailored to suit different levels of mobility.
Whether you’re looking to improve your own health or support a loved one, this is a great opportunity to learn new skills and connect with others in the community. Come along, get moving, and take a step toward better winter wellbeing.
