Wendy McClelland, former co-owner of the Wallace McClelland Gallery in Barkers Creek with her late husband artist Peter Wallace, has generously donated a selection of stunning artworks to Spencely Hostel at Castlemaine Health.
The five pieces are now on display for residents, families and staff to enjoy. Wendy personally selected each of the pieces from her own collection.
The very generous donation was made in appreciation of the “wonderful care” she received at Spencely House.
Wendy’s has a long association with Castlemaine Health, having worked as a nurse at Castlemaine Health for many years.
Wendy and Peter were well-known personalities locally and in the art world. Their popular Barker’s Creek gallery was set within a hand-built mud brick house in the grounds of a beautiful native garden.
As well as an artist, Peter Wallace was also a leading figure in the establishment of the Wesley Hill Market so the couple’s artistic and community legacy in the Castlemaine region continues to thrive.
Wendy has very recently bid goodbye to Castlemaine and her many good friends having relocated to Northcote to be closer to her family.
Castlemaine Health would like to thank Wendy for her very generous gift. We are incredibly grateful and look forward to appreciating these beautiful artworks with families and residents for many years to come.
